Meet Our Doctors

Christina Nye, MD

Dr. Nye grew up in Great Falls, Montana and graduated with high honors from Carroll College in Helena, Montana. She earned her Medical Degree with honors from The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. Dr. Nye completed a residency in Ophthalmology at The Ohio State University and then completed a fellowship in Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus at Columbus Children’s Hospital. She has been practicing ophthalmology in Spokane since 1999.

Dr. Nye is board certified in Ophthalmology and is a member of the American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus. She is also a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and a member of the Spokane County Medical Society.

Caroline Shea, MD

Dr. Shea grew up on the east coast outside of Morristown, New Jersey. She obtained her medical degree with honors from Northwestern University Medical School’s combined BS/MD program. She completed her Ophthalmology residency at Case Western Reserve University/University Hospitals of Cleveland and went on to a fellowship in Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus at The Children’s Hospital of Denver and the University of Colorado. She was an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Colorado from 1998 to 2003.

Dr. Shea is board certified in Ophthalmology and is a member of the American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus. She is also a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.

Rick Whitehead, MD

Dr. Rick Whitehead was born and raised in St. George, Utah and is a graduate of Brigham Young University. He earned his medical degree with honors at The Ohio State University, where he stayed on for his Ophthalmology residency training. Dr. Whitehead completed his fellowship in Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus at Indiana University. He joined Northwest Pediatric Ophthalmology in 2011.

Dr. Whitehead is board certified in Ophthalmology and is a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He is actively involved with the American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus as well as the Children's Eye Foundation and recently consulted on a new children's book about color vision deficiency called "The Curious Eye." Dr. Whitehead resides in Spokane with his wife, four children, and their dog Cosmo.
